Call for Papers: Artificial Intelligence, ESG and Responsible Public Governance: European Perspectives

Thematic issue information: Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming public governance, administrative processes, public services, and regulatory frameworks. At the same time, increasing attention to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles calls for a responsible, transparent, and socially embedded approach to digital transformation.

This thematic issue aims to explore the intersection of AI, ESG-oriented governance, and public sector responsibility. Contributions should examine how AI can support sustainable public management, how regulatory and institutional frameworks shape its implementation, and how public institutions build the necessary competencies and capacities to manage AI responsibly.

The issue particularly welcomes contributions grounded in empirical research, comparative analyses, policy evaluation, and innovative methodological approaches.

Topics: According to the above considerations, this thematic issue invites submissions and seeks papers that deal with the following topics:

  • AI governance and regulatory frameworks in public administration
  • Alignment of AI implementation with ESG principles
  • Public sector capacity building in AI and digital transformation
  • Comparative analyses of national AI strategies and policies
  • Institutional readiness and maturity models for AI integration
  • AI and public accountability, transparency, and trust
  • The role of AI in ESG reporting and sustainability management
  • AI education and competence development in the public sector
  • Ethical, legal, and social implications of AI in governance
  • Cross-country comparisons in AI and public governance

Other topics relevant to the scope of the journal and the thematic focus will also be considered.
